: Game description
Who hasn't wanted to build something like a soapbox racer or a tree house when they were a kid? Hobby Shop will give players that same sense of exploration and experimentation to create which we all had when we were young, as well as encouraging kids to be more expressive and creative. Hobby shop will take full advantage of using the Wii controllers in 3D space and allow players to create all kinds of projects that they will be able to use in game. The player's accuracy using the tools in game will reflect the performance of the project created. Players can even challenge other players to test out their creation against one another. Parents and kids alike will be delighted to work together creating an assortment of items and then testing them out to see how well their creation stands up to the challenge.
: Game features
Imagine putting your carpentry skills to the test using the Wii controller to build everything from a birdhouse to a boxcar racer! Imagine a game where every turn of the screwdriver, every swing of the hammer, and every grind of the saw effects your final result! Now imagine taking your creations and challenging your friends in various competitions! Imagine no longer with Big Blue Bubble's "Hobby Shop" for the Nintendo Wii.
: The Characters
The main character in Hobby Shop is . YOU! You are the one that is swinging the hammer, using the saw to cut the board, steering the soapbox racer, or firing the catapult. The final creation is something that you have made. We want the player to take pride in their creations so the game will be from the player's perspective where we put them in the driver's seat and are actually controlling the tools in game to create a project and have full control over the quality of the projects that are created. You will of course have help from some of the townspeople by completing tasks for them and building objects that they will request.
: The Gameplay
The Nintendo Wii has very unique controllers which the Hobby Shop game will fully utilize. Players will be presented with materials and tools which they will use to construct all kinds of projects. These materials will be used and manipulated through the use of the Wii controllers to construct all kinds of interesting projects. The player's ability to effectively use the tools will influence the quality of these constructed objects, so you better be precise with that screwdriver or hammer otherwise you might find your soapbox racer's wheel falling off part way down the hill or your flying machine spinning out of control in mid-flight. Finished projects can enter into challenges where the player will test how efficient the project performs, but it will not just up to the quality of the project to win the challenge, the player's skill will also play a big part in completing the assigned task.
: The Story
FINALLY school is out for summer!!! . Now what are you going to do? You have the whole summer to do whatever you want but you have no idea what you want to do first. Grandpa has come over for a visit and asks you the same question, "So, now that you are done with school for another year what do you plan to do all summer?". You give a shrug and quietly say, "I dunno". Grandpa gets up from his chair and says," Well, I think I have something that might keep you busy for a little while" and he walks over to a bag he left at the front door. You open it and inside you see an old hammer. "When I was a kid just about your age", Grandpa says thoughtfully as he sits back down in the chair, "I spent all my time in my Dad's Hobby Shop using that hammer to build all kinds of things. You would be amazed at what you can make if you just look around and start putting things together".
Excitedly you run out to the back shed and hang your new hammer on the wall behind the work bench. It looks rather lonely on the big tool wall. But I'm sure you'll be able to find more tools somewhere. "Now this is going to be MY new Hobby Shop", you say to yourself and immediately start looking around for materials to start building with.
: Game Highlights
Players will use in game tools in very much the same way as you would use real carpentry tools but in a safe virtual environment. Hobby Shop will have a very small learning curve due to the general familiarity virtually everyone has with common carpentry tools. Even if someone has not actually used a tool before, they will still know the basic function of a hammer or a screwdriver allowing them to get into the game very quickly and easily. The content and simple controls will also make this game very accessible to male and female players of all ages and is something that parents can sit down with their kids and play along with them. Not only is the player constructing and customizing items in the game but they are also given the opportunity to actually use and test their creations in challenges as well as compete against other players online to test out their handiwork.
